Paleo Chocolate Orange Cookies
Paleo
Nut-Free
Dairy-Free
Gluten-Free
As my first semester of grad school is wrapping up and I have some vacation for the holidays at work, I can’t wait to get through the next week so that I can start relaxing! I’ve still been squeezing in some holiday baking, but not nearly as much as I’d like to if things were a less chaotic!
We won’t be able to visit my family this year for Christmas unfortunately. It will be the first year ever that I haven’t been home for the holidays. I know I’m not the only one in this position, so I’ve been indulging in comfort food, Christmas movies and everything holiday to help ease the sting!
Typically, I’m not the biggest chocolate-orange fan. However, these cookies have been a game changer for me. They are so perfectly fudgy and have just a hint of orange, which makes for the best combination! You’ll definitely want to give this recipe a try this holiday season! They’re also paleo and nut-free, so everyone can enjoy!
What do I need to make paleo chocolate orange cookies?
- Coconut oil or ghee
- Coconut sugar
- Egg
- Vanilla
- Sea salt
- Orange zest
- Orange juice
- Baking soda
- Cocoa powder
- Coconut flour
- Chocolate chips
Servings:
10-12 cookies
Prep Time:
5 minutes
Cook Time:
10-12 minutes
Total Time:
15-17 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil or ghee
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar
- 1 egg – room temperature
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 1/2 tablespoons coconut flour
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions:
Step 1
Place coconut flour, baking soda, sea salt and cocoa powder in a medium size bowl. Whisk to combine and set aside
Step 2
In a large bowl, cream together the coconut oil and coconut sugar. Whisk in the egg, vanilla, orange juice and orange zest
Step 3
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients until just combined. Gently fold in your chocolate chips
Step 4
Place cookie dough in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes before baking
Step 5
While the cookie dough chills, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Step 6
When dough is finished chilling, scoop tablespoon sized balls onto prepared baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, until cookie appears to be just set, taking care not to burn the bottoms of the cookies
Step 7
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes after removing from the oven before moving to a wire cooling rack to cool to room temperature. Cookies can be stored at room temperature for up to 5 days. Enjoy!
Notes:
- If you’re not dairy sensitive, butter would also work for this recipe
- Either cacao or cocoa powder will work fine
